LMMU to Incorporate Attached Staff into University Structure – Vice Chancellor Kabwe, Zambia – (11th September 2025) The Vice Chancellor of Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU), Prof. Sekelani Banda, has announced that the university will soon commence the process of incorporating attached staff into its official establishment, provided they possess the requisite qualifications. Speaking during an address to LMMU staff in Kabwe, Prof. Banda revealed that Government has resolved for LMMU to operate as a fully stand-alone public university, like the University of Zambia, Copperbelt University, and other higher learning institutions.

“The process of incorporating attached staff into the university structure is a matter of individual choice, whether to explore other opportunities or to officially join Levy Mwanawasa Medical University. However, the transition is inevitable and necessary for our growth as an institution,” Prof. Banda said.

He further noted that the Minister of Education recently appointed the University Council, which is already operational, marking a significant milestone in the governance and strategic direction of the institution. Prof. Banda highlighted that LMMU has so far graduated over 7,000 students, contributing significantly to Zambia’s pursuit of universal health coverage. With a growing student population, he stressed the need for more qualified staff to be employed to meet the increasing demand.
