Lusaka, November 11, 2025. The Registrar of Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU) has expressed deep concern over the recent spate of armed attacks targeting some of the University’s students residing in boarding houses around the PHI and Mtendere areas.
The University Management strongly condemns these violent acts and extends heartfelt sympathy to all affected students. The safety, welfare, and peace of mind of our students remain our utmost priority. Management is actively engaging relevant authorities to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to protect our students from further harm.
The Registrar noted that the University has engaged the Zambia Police Service to strengthen security measures for students living off campus. These efforts include intensified police patrols, improved coordination in emergency response, and closer collaboration between law enforcement officers, community members, and the University’s student leadership.
In the long term, LMMU is looking forward to the commencement of the construction of new on campus student hostels in 2026. Once completed, these facilities will provide students with safer, more secure accommodation and significantly reduce their exposure to off campus security threats.
LMMU remains committed to working hand in hand with government authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to create a safe, supportive, and conducive environment for all students to live and learn.
